Sean L McMorris Live in Castleberry Hills at Elliot Street

Atlanta native Sean L McMorris live at Elliot Street Deli & Pub for an early week dose of jazz.  Performing with Sean L McMorris were Rhettt Huffman (keys), Yaya Brown (percussion), Kenneth Kenito Murray (percussion) and Travis Murphy (bass).

Elliot Street Deli & Pub provides an authentic neighborhood vibe in Downtown Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill neighborhood. The Pub is a short walk from the new Atlanta Falcons stadium.  Since Mike and Pete Jakob opened the Pub in 2006 it has become the home for jazz, open mic jams, experimental music nights.  The pub boasts an outdoor “garage” stage and a speakeasy type stage in the basement (known as “the 51”).

Tonight’s show, like every Tuesday night’s show, was hosted in the 51.  Once upon a time this place was known as Dee’s Bird Cage.  Sean L McMorris played true to the club’s jazz roots with tonight’s set.  The night started with a couple of covers which were followed by three original tunes by Sean L McMorris.

Artist Q&A (11/03/2015):

What was the first album that you added to your music library?
KISS – Dressed To Kill, when I was 5 years old.

What was your most recent addition to your music library?
I’ve bought so little new music that I haven’t had to buy for work purposes. Oh yeah, the last thing was an album by Joe Bonamassa that he gave free downloads of.

What was your first live music experience?
My first live music experience was more than likely a festival at Piedmont Park. The family would go to these all the time when I was a kid, but I don’t remember the artists. The first real concert that I went to was The Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984. I was on the third row directly in front of Tito.

If you could cover one album in your music library which would it be?
Bright Size Life- Pat Metheny

Which artist do you wish more people had in their music library?
That’s a tough one. Maybe Fela. Afrobeat is still woefully under recognized on this country.
