Angela Reign was crowned Best Female Country Artist of the Year in 2013 by fans and the GA Music Awards. She was also named one of the Five Best Local Rock Bands by CBS Atlanta. We had a chance to sit down with her at Trammel Starks studio, in Atlanta, as she was working on her new single “Obvious”.
Angela Reign Interview
What’s the inspiration for Obvious?
I wanted to do something very different from country music that leaned towards the kind of music I listen to, the kind of music that inspires me, the kind of music that my music idols would do or be drawn too. I didn’t want campy or playful. I wanted soulful, harmonic, and real. This song represents the love from all my supporters and fans that lift me up. But more importantly represents and mimics the way I feel about my number one love and supporter in my life, my loving husband. Without his encouragement and holding a mirror in front of me saying, “look this is who you are, and this is why you can and should do this”, I wouldn’t have accomplished all that I have or even taken the steps towards this musical adventure. His love and support is just that…Obvious!
Who else was involved with the creation of the single?
Chantae Cann provided her beautiful feathery and light vocals on backgrounds, Chris Blackwell killed it on guitar throughout the track, and Trammel Starks made it into magic with his amazing production talents.
Is Obvious part of a larger project? Shall we see an EP or full length album release from Angela Reign?
I want it to be. I am working with Trammel and Mike on how to make that wish a reality. I have several other songs that are possible fits to make this next project into an EP. More to come on that later in 2016.
Where can we expect to see and hear you next?
My next major performance will be in support of NASCAR, playing a big role in the opening of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway. On Saturday, February 27th, I’ll have the honor of performing the National Anthem prior to the opening race of the season, complete with a fireworks show and a fighter jet flyover. And then on the following day, Sunday, February 28th, I’ll be back, this time to provide a pre-race concert immediately prior to the Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500. Excited and at the same time always a bit nervous when doing our Anthem particularly before a live audience of 100,000 with another couple million tuning in on TV.
What was the first album that you added to your music library?
The first album from someone else that I received as a child was Dolly Parton “Coat of Many Colors”/”Jolene” on a true record.
What was your most recent addition to your music library?
Phil Collins greatest hits and The Weeknd….LOVE HIM.. He is like Michael Jackson meets Prince meets Drake meets Bruno Mars.
What was your first live music experience? Which venue and which artist(s)?
First concert was NKOTB as an 11 year old…I know I know enough said.
As an artist, at the end of 2009, I performed in Atlanta as part of a dynamic duo rich in harmony. By end of 2010 was performing as part of a 5 piece band.
If you could cover one album in your music library which would it be?
A compilation of Fleetwood Mac hits.
What artist do you wish more people had in their music library?
I am a huge fan of female based singers/entertainers that bring an edgy confident style to the stage such as Pink, Madonna, Jewel, Bonnie Raitt, Alanis Morrisette, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Adele, Lady Gaga, Lucinda Williams, Heart, Janet Jackson, Etta James…all inspiring in their own unique way and POWERFUL!!
What else would you like to share with your fans about what is to come from Angela Reign?
Fans can expect more from me in terms of music, body paint modeling, and other fun events to come! Hopefully a music video for “Obvious” in the near future.
