A wonderful mid week treat with the Center of the World, Funk, Soul and Afrobeat Dance Party featuring the Lightning Orchestra, Kebbi Williams and the Wolfpack at Aisle 5 in Little Five Points. We shared some photos of the Wolf Pack at Aisle 5 earlier this week. Once the Wolfpack left the stage, the Lightning Orchestra made it’s way to the stage. The air was already charged after the Wolfpack totally blew everyone’s mind with their first set.
The set started with the sweet tasting mixture of jazz, funk, psychedelic rock, Ghanaian/Nigerian rythyms, and traditional West African chants featuring tunes from Fela Kuti. From there the Lightning Orchestra took us on a tour of some classing soul and funk tunes. Some songs from the set list included:
- Africa Center of the World (Fela Kuti)
- ITT (Fela Kuti)
- Clouds (Chaka Khan)
- Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved (James Brown)
- Slipping into Darkness (The Dayton Sidewinders)
- Don’t Call Me Nigger (Sly and the Family Stone)
- Cinco De Mayo (War)
Lightning Orchestra is: Travis Murphy (electric bass), Dash Smith (vocals & trumpet) , Sean McMorris (guitar), Stephen Burns (guitar), Scotty Bryan (vocals & drums), Jeremy Saude (percussions), Yaya Brown (percussions), Ayo Cooley (keyboard), Abby Wren (keyboard & vocals), Tiffany White (vocals), Daniel Wytanis (trombone), Taylor Kennedy (saxophone), Maddy Davis (vibes), and Marquinn Mason (saxophone). And yes you counted right, FOURTEEN talented musicians on stage cranking out some of the best funk, soul and Afrobeat to be found anywhere. We got a hint of things to come at Interview:Lightning Orchestra…. be on the look out for some original music from Lightning Orchestra and add it to your Libro Musica.
