Prince Jam at Red Light Cafe

His royal badness, Prince, was the featured artist at this month’s BAAT Tribute Jam at the Red Light Cafe.   The Bad Ash Allstar Team (BAAT) Tribute Jams are “open tribute jams.”  That means they are open to everybody to sign up.  But instead of an “anything goes” jam, these jams are themed/centered around 1-3 popular artists’ material (or, in this case, Prince’s material).  Musicians sign up for tunes in advance instead of just showing up and sitting in at random.  There is no rehearsal.  Musicians just show up and jam the song.  It’s expected that the musicians practice the recording prior to the show or organize a individual rehearsals with people play a particular song together.  There is usually at least one rehearsal to square away loose ends and have some fun before she show.  Tonight on Amsterdam Avenue in the Amsterdam Walk, the BAAT took on the music of Prince.
