Thriving Children Gala at the Egyptian Ballroom

The Fox Theatre’s Egyptian Ballroom was filled with love and charitable hearts last night for the Thriving Children Gala Fashion Show.  This year the organization benefiting from the gala’s proceeds is Lost-n-Found Youth. The Gala included performances by a live orchestra, live auction, silent auction, food, and drinks. The musical entertainment for the night was provided by Chad Michaels, Cher impersonator of Ru Paull’s Drag Race fame, and the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus Panache Ensemble.

DSC08799-1Lost-n-Found Youth is Atlanta’s only non-profit organization dedicated to taking homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth off the street and into more permanent housing.  Rick Westbrook is the founder and CEO of Lost-n-Found Youth. During the gala, Rick Westbrook, gave a stirring talk about why he start Lost-n-Found Youth and the many challenge facing LGBT youth on the streets of Atlanta.  Lost-n-Found Youth is dedicated to the advocacy and service of youth from 13 to 25 years old.  You can still donate to Thriving Children here.  Each gift, no matter the size,will have a significant impact in the lives of many.

This is the seventh year that Steve Hightower of Steve Hightower Salon & Day Spa has hosted a spring Fashion Show Fundraiser and Gala since 2010.  This year he once again served as emcee for the night.  Sharing the stage to host this year’s event was the Emmy award winning news anchor Karyn Greer.

Opening Music

The Sentimental Journey Orchestra provided music during the silent auction and during the interludes of the Thriving Children Gala.  The Sentimental Journey Orchestra is an 18 member big band that played music with the big band swing sound of Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Les Brown and others. This big band group made up of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, piano, guitar, bass and drums.  This big band sound coupled with the Fox Theatre’s Egyptian Ball Room gave the night an elegant atmosphere.

The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus Panache Ensemble opened the main show with a few selections. The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is a nonprofit performing arts organization with the Panache Ensemble being a small segment of the full chorus.  The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is as diverse group of performers that is as diverse as the music the chorus performs.

Chad Michaels

Chad Michaels has been a Cher impersonator for over two decades and shared his enthusiasm, charm and energy to wow the crowd at the Thriving Children Gala.  In 2011 Chad Michaels was a runner up on RuPauls Drag Race and in 2012 won the title of “Queen of Queens” in the RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race.
