Amplify an Evening of Live Music with the Pussywillows at the W

The Starwood Hotels, especially The W Hotels, are known for their swank accommodations.  The Starwood Preferred Guests program promotes what they call the SPG Life.  The SPG Life is one filled with all the luxuries that one can find at places like The W Hotel midtown or any Starwood Hotels property around the world.  Tonight’s glimpse into the SPG Life was an installment of Amplify Live.  Amplify Live at the W Hotel in Midtown brings live music to the hotel’s Living Room bar every month.  This installment of Amplify Live featured The Pussywillows and Amanda Hale.

The Pussywillows and Amanda Hale at the W hotel for Amplify Live Atlanta

The opening performer Amanda Hale was joined by guitarist Lee Martin and Erick Nathan on cajón and rap vocals.  Amanda Hale is a singer, songwriter and performer based out of Atlanta.  She has been putting out her own music since 2010 when she released her self-titled EP.  Between writing music and performing she recently started an apparel brand called CAKESMASH.  Her music is an upbeat blend of pop and rock.

There are some performers that I’m thrilled every time I get a chance to hear them.  The Pussywillows is one of those bands.  The duet of Carly Gibson and Hannah Zale put on performances that are a dynamic mix of edgy house rocking anthems, tender melodies, soft harmonies and much more.  Tonight’s set list from The Pussywillows was a mix of their original music and covers from Heart, Tonic, Amy Winehouse, Jack White and Mother’s Finest.  Even when doing covers The Pussywillows make the music their own.  Tonight we heard:

  • Straight On, Heart
  • Talk is Cheap
  • Open Up Your Eyes, Tonic
  • In Another Life
  • This Is Me
  • Valerie, Amy Winehouse
  • Love Interruption, Jack White
  • Too Bad
  • 23
  • Love Ain’t Going No Where, Mother’s Finest

The W Hotel’s Living Room bar was filled with music fans that came out to see The Pussywillows and Amand Hale.  There were also a number of hotel guests that were surprised by this special treat.  To add to the night’s showcase of great music Carly Gibson brought to the stage her 15 year old guitar student.  This talented young lady enhanced tonight’s show with two original songs.

The Pussywillows and Amanda Hale join each other on stage to perform a song together.  Hannah Zale let the crowd know that this would be the first and last time they heard her perform a country song on stage.  We also learned that the ladies had only practiced this song once before and that practice happened earlier that night in the ladies restroom.  From there they rolled into the Pistol Annies’ “Hell on Heels.”   The lack of multiple practices didn’t stop the Pussywillows and Amanda Hale from tearing the roof down and bringing the crowd off their feet as they each gave it their all during their verse of the song.  We often get to hear Carly Gibson of the Pussywillows strut her stuff as she riffs on the guitar which she certainly did tonight.  It is not often that Hannah Zale pushes her voice to it’s limit and shows off her amazing talent but, she reminded the crowd tonight of her amazing voice with this country song.  Hopefully someone can share the video of this performance with me.

“I’m hell on heels, say what you will
I’ve done made the devil a deal
He made me pretty
He made me smart
And I’m gonna break me a million hearts
I’m hell on heels baby I’m comin’ for you” – Pistol Annies, “Hell on Heels”
