The MadLife Battle of the Bands finale was held on March 21, 2018 at MadLife Stage and Studios. Bands performing tonight were Twin Birds, Misty Eyed, Runway 27, Scarlett, NEXUS and Still Warning. The top three bands would walk away with a cash prize and the winner would also receive studio time at MadLife.
The crowd was buzzing with excitement as the evening opened with a performance by Twin Birds. Friends since high school, the band consists of Will Sutherland, Charles Bryant, and Justin Moon out of Kennesaw, Georgia. According to the band, “They combine elements from multiple styles to create a sound that is both intense and accessible. Their live shows are dynamic, offering generous doses of guitar driven rock, groovy riffs, and powerful ballads. Twin Birds provides a modern rock show that can be enjoyed by any fans of hard hitting music and a good time.”
Alternative rock band Misty Eyed came to the stage next. Based in Acworth, Georgia these band mates are not only good friends but top-notch musicians as well. Megan Burke – Lead Vocals, John Eck – Guitar, Wes Powell – Bass, and Zach Nall – Drums
All four of us come from extremely different musical backgrounds, and it really shows in our music. From metal, to punk, to classic rock. There’s a little something in there for everyone. We’ve had our sound compared to artists like Tool, Evanesence, Paramore, and Breaking Benjamin. We’re trying to bring a revival to rock. – Megan Burke
Third on the list to perform was Runway 27, formally known as the Teresa Lynne Band. Led by powerhouse vocals Teresa Lynne, George Price- Lead Guitar, Ron Stutts- bass, Steve Saunders- Drums, Bob Jones-Keyboard
What we want to do with Runway 27 is present quality music we love, and hope others will too on the merits of song and performance. Some of it’s pretty ambitious stuff, and we like that challenge. – George Price
According to the band, Scarlett was “formed in the summer of 2017, and plays a powerful mix of melodic original music with a uniquely elegant yet driving groove. They combine meaningful lyrics with powerful hooks so fans will be guaranteed to be singing along on the first listen!” George Emans Vocals & Guitar, Konstantine Maheras – Lead Guitar, Pete Melton – Bass Guitar, Steven Reed – Percussion.
Teens, from the band NEXUS, ranging in age from 14-18 wowed the audience. Natasha- Vocals and Keys, Kyle-Guitar, Jake-Guitar, Ben-Guitar, Joy-Bass, Devon-Drums, and Taylor- Drums. This group met through the Music Matters Rock U program. They have a few shows coming up, with the biggest one being the “Gigging4Grub” benefit concert that Devon hosts, where they will be opening for KICK-The INXS Experience at 37MAIN in Buford, Georgia on 6/2/2018.
Self proclaimed “gritty bluesy rock-n-roll band” Still Warning finished out the night. Formed in 2016, Still Warning is inspired by bands like Stone Temple Pilots, The Cult, and Alice in Chains, and set out to play the style of rock n’ roll they felt was missing in today’s musical landscape. Led by Billy Bosler – vocals, Tony Madewell – guitar, Michael Hildebrand – bass, Mike Cyphers – drums.
The Winners Are..
Judging for this season of the MadLife Battle of the Bands finale was based on the decibel meter readings located around the venue. The audience decided who the winner would be based on their cheers and applause. The winners for the evening: Third Place: Misty Eyed, Second Place: NEXUS, and First Place: Scarlett!
First, second, and third place winners received cash prizes. In addition to the cash prize, the first place winners also received recording time in the MadLife’s state of the art recording studio and the chance to collaborate with chief studio engineer, Steven Morrison, who is a GRAMMY nominated engineer with a decade of professional experience.
