The Southern psychedelic funk quartet Tesheva hit the stage at Aisle 5 in Little Five Points with sounds from their debut self titled EP, Tesheva, and some more experimental yet to be released psychedelic tunes. Tesheva is Vaughan Brenner on drums, Michael McCoy on guitar, Caleb Hutson on Guitar and Matt Dunaway on bass.
The band sites their influences coming from funk, rock, blues, jazz fusion and progressive instrumental and draw their inspiration from bands like The Meters, Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers Band, Sea Level, and Steely Dan. Hearing Tesheva perform, one gets to escape into the free flow of their music. The jazz underpinnings give their songs an improvised sound while the funky bass and distorted guitars take you away on a auditory trip to a far away galaxy. The light show at Aisle 5 and the incense burning on stage helped to align my other senses with the music and made for a psychedelically groovy time.
Take a listen to “Exogyra” and “Nazaranusaurus” from their soon to be released album and enjoy the ride.
You can stream Tesheva on Spotify and stay tuned to Libro Musica for more music from their next EP.
