Benefit Concert A Heart for Shemere Perry with Diane Durrett

Listen Local! Why? Because musicians are a vital part of what makes communities thrive. Diane Durrett, Staff Mahan and Hannah Thomas joined forces to show how music can be used as a rallying cry to bring the community together to help someone in need. The three singers performed a singers in the round concert at The Red Clay Music Foundry to help congestive heart failure patient Shemere Perry raise funds for heart surgery. Diane Durrett is a blues singer that knows how to captivate the crowd. Her shows with a full band are filled with high energy for a house rockin’ good time. For the Shemere Perry benefit concert, Diane Durrett performed an acoustic set with Melissa Junebug on percussion and Steff Mahan and Hannah Thomas tossing in some impromptu harmonies. The song “Be Somebody’s Angel” was the perfect song to kindle the giving spirit of the night.

“She’s good. She’s damn good.” Sting’s summation of his duet with singer songwriter producer Diane Durrett speaks for anyone who’s ever heard her perform. Winner of the 2015 ‘Peoples Choice Award’ by the Atlanta Blues Society, as a well as awarded the ‘Best Self-Produced Album’ representing Atlanta in the International Blues Challenge. “Soul Suga’ & Diane Durrett” received national & international attention charting in the Top 10 of the Roots Music Report Contemporary Blues chart.

Despite the somber reason for tonight’s benefit concert, Diane Durrett reminded us that “ain’t nobody gone blind from looking at the bright side.”
