Valentine’s Day with Ashley Rivera of Sister Moon

Ashley Rivera is the lead singer of the Southern Gothic rock band Sister Moon. Chilly haunting nights are the images that come to mind when I listen to Sister Moon. This week in honor of Valentine’s Day we reached out to Ashley Rivera to get her thoughts on love songs and breakup songs and event a Valentine’s Day recommendation from Sister Moon’s catalog.

Valentine’s Day Q&A With Ashley Rivera

What’s your favorite love song?
I don’t know what my ultimate answer to this question is. It changes. But the one that’s been on my mind lately is “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys. It’s just so sweet.

What’s your favorite breakup song?
“Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac, hands down. Hearing them do this one live a few years ago made me cry.

Do you have any favorite traditions for valentine’s day?
Music definitely plays a role in the holiday every year, because I’m always gigging on Valentine’s Day! So I guess my tradition is to provide the soundtrack for other peoples’ traditions. And that’s alright with me!

Is there one of your original songs that you think everyone needs on their valentine’s day playlist or on their breakup playlist?
Our song “Lorelei” is s strange bird, because it could really fit on either list. It’s written as a response to a siren’s song. The writer loves the siren and is weakened by her, but knows that following her call will mean their death. See? Romantic.
